Care & Composition

How and where is Gaïa jewellery made?

Plus Icon

Great thought was put into carefully handpicking the right manufacturers for Gaïa Studio No.1. For us, it was essential to ensure we would only ever work with a small number of manufacturers that we could trust to both live up to our high ethical standards and support our sustainable focus.

All of our Gaïa Studio jewellery is made meticulously handmade by an environmentally friendly, small family owned business that have been operating for more than three generations from their HQ in London and their sustainable plant located in Thailand. The materials for each piece of our handmade jewellery is responsibly sourced and compiled by our skilled jewellers.
Our family owned manufacturer are also the first and only factory in Asia certified as a Fairmined authorised supplier. By offering full transparency, working alongside them has proven to be a real pleasure, with their high-quality working conditions and fairly paid wages a guarantee.

We individually hand pick our Fresh Water Pearls from our supplier in London, and for each piece we make sure to meticulously match the pearls in shape, size and lustre, to guarantee each piece perfectly compliments each other.

All of our bespoke engagement rings are sourced and handcrafted exclusively in London.

What’s the difference between lab-grown and mined diamonds?

Plus Icon

A lab grown diamond is exactly the same as an earth grown, mined diamond. Lab created diamonds display the exact same physical, chemical and optical characteristics as a natural diamond. They have the identical shine, firmness, fire and sparkle. Lab created diamonds are nearly impossible to differentiate from natural diamonds with the naked eye, as only with professional and specialised equipment can they be distinguished. The only difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond is where and how quickly they grow.

How do I take the best care of my Gaïa studio Jewellery?

Plus Icon

Our commitment to using such high-quality materials is based upon the hope that you will keep your Gaïa Studio jewellery for a lifetime. Your jewellery is designed to withstand lots of wear, but it is still worth keeping in mind that they are made from precious metals and delicate stones. To take the best care of your handmade pieces, we advise you to avoid getting your jewellery in contact with perfume, deodorants, makeup, lotions and hair products. That is why our Gaïa jewellery is always the last thing we put on and the first thing we take off. Always store your jewellery pieces individually. We prefer storing them in our Gaïa Studio jewellery boxes wrapped in the soft 100% recycled Bamboo fabric to make sure they don’t scratch, rub together or tangle.

DO you have any tips on how to take care and store my pearl Jewellery?

Plus Icon

Here are a few tips on how to take the best care of your pearl jewellery:

- Do not leave your pearls in direct sunlight.

- Avoid getting your pearls in contact with makeup, perfume and hair products.

- Always take off your pearls before showering and swimming.

- Always give your pearls a gentle wipe with a soft cloth to remove excess oils, sweat, perfume and dirt before storing them in your Gaïa Studio jewellery box.

- Store your pearls in your Gaïa Studio box to keep them out of the sun and to avoid them getting scratched and tangled with other objects.

- Do not store your pearls in airtight packaging (such as plastic bags). Gaïa Studio only uses real pearls and real pearls require moisture.

Size & Fit

Can I adjust the size of my Gaïa Studio jewelry?

Plus Icon

All our bracelets and necklaces offer adjustable length chains, and our rings comes in UK size K, L, M and N.
Our bespoke pieces can me made in any size, and for bespoke pieces only we also offer one free of charge resizing.

How can I measure my ring size?

Plus Icon

We would recommend being professionally sized by your local jeweller is always a good option where possible, and  ensure to be given a size in UK sizing, as well as an inside diameter measurement of the ring sizer - as these tools can vary between jewellers.

Jewellery

What does recycled gold mean?

Plus Icon

At Gaïa Studio we use 100% recycled metals. The recycling process means that the metals have been melted down and refined until it reaches its most pure form. We choose to craft our jewellery from recycled metals compared to mined, to help reduce the negative environmental impacts. For our bespoke pieces we also offer fair trade sourced metals, and we guarantee our metals can be traced back to source.

How do you clean Gaïa Studio jewelry?

Plus Icon

Pearl jewellery should be treasured and cared for, which is why we advise you to gently wipe your pearls with a dry soft cloth every time you take them off, to remove any body oils, products or other debris that might be on the surface. We also advise that your pearls should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

If you feel that your pearls need a deeper clean we recommend that you gently use a soft cotton, a small basin of lukewarm soapy water. (Ideally, use pure soap or soap flakes.) Avoide any harsh washing liquids or dishwashing sope - this may harm your pearls and make them loose their beautiful lustre.

Diamonds

are lab Grown diamonds real diamonds?

Plus Icon

Yes, they are real diamonds. A lab grown diamond is exactly the same as an earth grown, mined diamond. Lab created diamonds display the exact same physical, chemical and optical characteristics as a natural diamond. They have the identical shine, firmness, fire and sparkle. The only difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond is where and how quickly they grow. They are grown using the same environment, the growing conditions have been engineered to produce an identical diamond without the social and environmental impact of mining.

what is the difference between lab grown diamonds and diamond simulant/cubic zirconia?

Plus Icon

It is important to clarify that although a diamond simulant such as cubic zirconia might look similar to a diamond at first, it is not a diamond. The chemical properties are completely different, and they can be made out of anything from cubic zirconia to glass. Diamond simulants can also never be considered a gemstone because they can’t be found in nature. It’s typically made from powdered zirconium and zirconium dioxide, melted together and formed into a stone. Furthermore, you will also be able to tell simulants apart from a real diamond since they aren’t as hard, don’t have the same optical properties, aren’t as sparkly and will show signs of wear. Gaïa Studio only uses high quality lab grown diamonds which are exactly the same as earth grown, mined diamond.

Our conflict-free diamonds

Plus Icon

Sadly, to this day mined diamonds have been linked to conflicts, human rights abuse and state corruption. Our lab-grown diamonds were chosen as an ethically sourced, conflict-free alternative. A lab-grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically completely identical to a mined diamond – the only difference being the way in which the diamond is grown. As opposed to a Cubic Zirconia or Moissanite, our diamonds are 100% real and handpicked through our trusted source in Antwerp, Belgium, with all those above 0,25ct coming with a GIA, IGI, AGS or HRD Diamond certificate.

Does my lab grown diamond come with a certicate?

Plus Icon

All of our diamonds above 0,25ct come with a GIA, IGI, AGS or HRD Diamond certificate. All of our diamonds are 100% handpicked through our trusted source in Antwerp, Belgium, where they go though intensive quality check controls.

Do Lab created diamonds sparkle?

Plus Icon

Oh yes they do! Lab diamonds do sparkle just as much as mined diamonds. The sparkle of a diamond always depends on the 4 C's such as clarity, cut, colour and carat, and lab diamonds are no different. Since the physical characteristics of a mined and lab diamond are not different, their sparkles aren't different either.

Do Lab created diamonds have flaws?

Plus Icon

Yes they do - just like mined diamonds. Lab grown diamonds are grown the same way (just in a lab) so therefore they have the same flaws. Each type of diamond both lab or mined, are individually unique and have their own characteristics.
